Teaching

I enjoy teaching art in settings where there is a strong sense of community, where we are not just what we do but viewed holistically. We are all artists, and many times we forget that. My teaching style is gentle and encouraging. I meet the students where they are in their development.

I am currently working at the River Gallery School in Brattleboro, Vermont.

I am available to teach groups as well as one-on-one sessions. I offer online as well as in-person classes. Please reach out to me if you are interested in any of the following offerings.

Drawing or Painting:
I have noticed that people find their voice when they let go of preconceived ideas about their goals. The nature of any artwork benefits from letting go. It often takes guidance first to see how to let go and when and where to gather the threads. All mediums have their way of communicating. I offer creative guidance with watercolor, oil painting, mixed media, and drawing.

Sequencing:
Sequencing is an approach to painting that was developed by Ric Campman at the River Gallery School where I currently work.

Through sequencing, guidance is offered by way of movement and repetition. One returns to a sense of being while working with only their hands and a few simple tools. Using a series of paper, the artist works image to image in an intuitive way as they make the same marks on each piece of paper. This allows them to reunite with the core elements of the painting without becoming stifled by inner critics.

I attended the sequencing teacher training in the summer of 2022, with Lydia Thomson and Kimberly Carmody. I am happy to pass on the gift of this painting experience to you.

Poets and Portraits
An image of a poet is provided, as well as a sound recording of them. Let the poet’s voice guide you as you draw or paint their portrait. Drawing and listening to poetry helps us deepen a sense of our visual work. It helps the artist slow down and tune into the drawing instead of being caught up in old thinking patterns.
